Redington 9' 4-Piece Fly Rod & Reel Combo Kit — Freshwater Setup

Product description

Freshwater field kit built for trout and general freshwater use. The outfit centers on a 9-foot four-piece rod with a medium action blank that balances accurate presentations with enough backbone to handle larger flies and varied freshwater techniques.

The rod breaks down into four sections for compact transport and storage, making it convenient for travel and hiking to remote water. Its medium action delivers a forgiving casting experience for dry flies while retaining the power needed for droppers, buggers and nymphs.

A Crosswater reel is included, featuring an anodized aluminum reel seat, a composite frame and a carbon disc drag system for dependable stopping power. The kit is outfitted with dacron backing and a RIO Mainstream fly line, plus a RIO tapered leader (tempered leader included) so you have the running line and leader ready to rig.

A padded nylon travel case protects the rod and reel while keeping everything organized when you’re on the move. The case accommodates the broken-down rod and assembled reel for safe storage between outings.

Kit contents: 9' four-piece medium-action fly rod, Crosswater reel with carbon disc drag, dacron backing, RIO Mainstream fly line, RIO tapered (tempered) leader, and a protective nylon carrying case. Simple setup gets you on the water quickly — add your preferred fly selection and you’re ready to fish.

Intended uses: trout and other freshwater species, shore or light wading scenarios, and anglers seeking a portable, all-in-one rig for learning or casual trips. While the hardware is robust for freshwater, serious casters may opt to upgrade the line and leader for optimal performance.

Pros

  • Complete kit with rod, reel, line, leader, backing and case
  • Portable four-piece rod ideal for travel
  • Durable reel with carbon disc drag

Cons

  • Stock RIO line can show memory and hinder casting
  • Entry-level components may need upgrading
  • Designed for freshwater use, not heavy saltwater

VerdictThis Redington combo is a versatile freshwater outfit that covers the essentials: a 9' medium-action, travel-friendly four-piece rod, a durable Crosswater reel and the line/leader/backing required to fish right away. It’s well suited for trout tactics like dry flies, droppers and nymph rigs and is convenient for anglers who need portability. Users praise its durability and ability to land fish, an

    Performs well from shore

After surgeries I can't wade anymore, but this rod works well from shore. The protective bag feels sturdy and durable.

  7. Duane 3/5

    Decent outfit, watch the line

Rod and reel feel acceptable, but the RIO line and leader have bad memory and the stock setup hurt casting. Swap the line for better performance.
