Polar H9 Chest Strap Heart Rate Sensor
Product description
Composition: 38% Polyamide, 29% Polyurethane, 20% Elastane, 13% Polyester.
Made in the USA or Imported.
What’s in the box: a chest strap with elastic band, the detachable Polar H9 sensor module, and a CR2025 button cell battery (installed). The strap is available in two fit ranges: XS–S for 20"–26" chests and M–XXL for 26"–36" chests. There is a thin protective film on the sensor face—peel it off before using.
Connectivity and operation: the sensor transmits heart rate data via Bluetooth, ANT+ and 5 kHz radio; these interfaces can be active at the same time to connect to phones, sport watches, bike computers and compatible gym machines. The H9 is intended for chest‑strap ECG-based measurement, delivering calorie counts and heart rate values derived from chest contact rather than wrist optical readings.
Battery and longevity: the module uses a CR2025 button battery (supplied) and is rated for approximately 400 hours of use under normal conditions. The sensor snaps out of the elastic strap for washing the band and preserving hygiene. Use the strap snugly under the chest so the wet contact zones maintain connectivity during activity.
Pros
- Wide connectivity: Bluetooth, ANT+ and 5 kHz
- Detachable sensor for washing the strap
- Long battery life with included CR2025 cell
Cons
- Elastic band can slip for some body types
- No dedicated power switch on the sensor
- Some users prefer a different battery size
VerdictThe Polar H9 is a straightforward chest-strap HR sensor aimed at people who want reliable heart rate and calorie tracking across phones, watches and gym equipment. It combines long battery life, simultaneous connectivity via Bluetooth, ANT+ and 5 kHz, and a removable sensor for washing the strap. While the elastic band may need adjustment for a perfect fit for some users, the sensor itself deliver

Does exactly what it was made for
My Spirit XG400 elliptical paired with the H9 on the 5 kHz band immediately, and it outperformed the unit that shipped with the machine. High build quality and you can disable it simply by detaching the sensor from the elastic strap.

Excellent precision and comfortable for training
Very happy with the H9. Connection is fast and stable, and heart-rate readings feel accurate compared with my watch, especially during sprints. The band fits well and becomes unnoticeable after a few minutes. Setup with my phone’s health app was quick and trouble‑free. Feels solid and built for regular use.

Stopped connecting after several months
Worked well for about six months, then began failing to connect to apps and my elliptical. A battery change restored it briefly, but the issue returned and the unit no longer pairs reliably.

Good sensor. Accurate and dependable.

Solid performance for cycling and indoor bikes
Pairs instantly with Peloton and my Garmin bike computer with no dropouts. Comfortable to wear and conserves battery. The sensor detaches so you can wash the strap, which is great after sweaty sessions. Also got one through FSA for my partner.

Great app support; strap may need a DIY fix
The strap tends to slide for people with large lats, so I ended up adding a zig‑zag silicone grip strip to the inside and sewing/gluing it on — now it stays put. You can also buy a grippier replacement strap, but expect to switch straps every several months. Works perfectly with my older Polar watch once secured.

Simple, reliable heart-rate strap
I've used it for over a year on runs and rides. Only changed the battery once and the band hasn't slipped. Pairing is automatic and it powers down when removed. No status light, but it’s not missed and helps preserve battery.

Accurate readings; helps beyond wrist sensors
At nearly 60 and after an AFib diagnosis, I wanted something other than wrist optical readings. The H9 won’t diagnose arrhythmias reliably, but heart-rate data is dependable once the strap is snug and the contacts are moistened. Ran four miles with it without discomfort.

Excellent strap, comparable to the H10 for most users
Bought the H9 as a lower‑cost alternative to the H10 and it performs superbly in field tests — from yoyo runs to martial‑arts sessions. The extra H10 features are unnecessary for most hobbyists. H9 readings are accurate and, with the right apps, can even capture HRV for more detailed analysis.

Does what it should, with occasional connectivity quirks
After a few weeks it tracked my treadmill and elliptical heart rate accurately compared to manual pulse checks. Sometimes the machine’s built-in sensors override the strap, but removing and reattaching fixes it. I wish it had a proper on/off switch and used a CR2032 instead of a CR2025.

Fits the intended purpose
Matches the description and pairs perfectly with my Polar watch. It also works with gym equipment that supports Bluetooth HR. On some machines the displayed heart rate fluctuates after about ten minutes, which I haven’t been able to explain.
