Speedball India Ink — Sapphire (1 oz) Bottle
Product description
This listing is for one 1-ounce bottle of Speedball India Ink in the Sapphire shade. The formula relies on densely concentrated pigments designed to give strong, vivid color payoff and solid reproduction on absorbent papers and textiles.
The ink is made to be free-flowing and non-clogging, so it applies easily with a variety of tools: dip pens and nibs, brushes (including nylon pointed brushes), steel brushes and airbrush systems. It mixes and layers well; light layers dry matte and multiple layers can deepen the tone toward a satin finish.
Speedball’s India Ink is formulated for durability: it offers good lightfastness and becomes highly water-resistant once it has fully dried. Bottles may show some separation after storage or shipping — a gentle shake or stirring will re-mix the pigment. The company producing this ink has a long history in fine art materials and serves professional artists, students and hobbyists with a wide range of printmaking and calligraphy supplies.

Fortuna Paper 1/5
Too diluted for single-pass coverage
This feels mostly watery. To get solid coverage I had to layer multiple strokes; it’s not like a dense gel white ink pen.

Arrived unsealed and slightly underfilled
Color was good but the inner seal was missing and one bottle had noticeably less ink, like it had been opened before.

Vita 4/5
Thin feel but true brown tone
The brown is accurate and water resistant, not near-black. It smells oddly like chocolate and feels runnier than their darker inks, so it can be a bit prone to minor leaks. It dries fine and I’m learning how to handle it with my G-pen.

Not as opaque as I hoped
I expected a fully opaque finish but this shade came out more translucent than I needed for my project.

Reads indigo on linen — great permanence
Called sapphire but shows a lovely indigo on linen. I used a stencil with a light touch; it washed well and became permanent.

Pleasant surprise — three bottles included
I’m a longtime Speedball user and was delighted to find three bottles in my shipment when I expected one. The color is deep, resists bleeding with alcohol markers, and is easy to work with for illustration.

Reliable performance — American-made
Made in the USA and well packaged. After a gentle shake the separated pigment mixed back evenly; stirring helps avoid air bubbles. Applied with a nylon pointed brush, layers build nicely toward a darker, satin finish and dry-brush effects work well. The ink handles washes evenly and produced strong results in my tests.
