Jim Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks — .50mm (72 Pack)
Product description
This offering contains seventy-two Jim Dunlop Tortex standard picks in .50mm thickness, supplied as a bulk pack so you can keep extras in instrument cases, bags, and practice spaces. Each plectrum is formed from Delrin, a durable thermoplastic chosen for its balance of memory, resilience, and tonal clarity. The picks use the classic standard shape with a narrow-yet-rounded tip profile that aims to blend fullness with clear articulation — a shape designed to be versatile across styles.
Tortex picks are finished with a specially developed matte surface treatment that increases friction between thumb and pick, helping to prevent slips during aggressive strumming or fast single-note runs. That surface treatment also contributes to the picks’ signature bright and snappy attack; the material and finish together accentuate harmonic detail while preserving a focused transient response. Though these are .50mm (thin) picks, the construction promotes a pronounced twang on acoustic instruments and a lively snap on electrics.
Durability is part of the design: Delrin resists rapid deformation and keeps its playing edge longer than many low-cost plastics, even under heavy use. Thin picks will naturally wear faster than thicker gauges, but the treated finish slows loss of grip and helps the item remain serviceable for many sessions. Jim Dunlop first introduced this line decades ago, refining material choice and a color- and gauge-based system to give players consistent, repeatable feel and tone. These picks are manufactured at the Dunlop facility in Benicia, California, where production oversight maintains uniform thickness, shape, and finish across each batch.
Because of their combination of flexible response, pronounced attack, and secure grip, these picks are commonly chosen by musicians across genres — from acoustic performers seeking twang and nuance to electric players looking for articulate strumming and fast picking. The 72-pack format is convenient for players who go through picks regularly or who like to keep spares available at rehearsals, shows, and studio sessions.

VerdictThese .50mm Tortex picks deliver a crisp, lively attack and a reassuring non-slip surface while remaining flexible enough for twangy acoustic tones. The Delrin construction and matte treatment provide consistent feel and reliable longevity, making this 72-pack a practical choice for gigging players, recording sessions, or keeping spares on hand. My constant pick
Great tone and value — brings a clear, ringing chime out of my Takamine 12.

Durable, crisp sound
Bright, clear tone and longer life than basic plastic picks. They'd be nicer without the powdery residue you often wipe off before playing.

Twangy and forgiving
I choose this thin, somewhat soft yet grippy pick for acoustic gigs because its flex gives a lively twang — the give plucks strings instead of striking them flat. That flexibility softens hard strums during high-energy solo sets and reduces hard clack and tuning headaches compared with stiffer picks. They wear sooner than heavy gauges but outlast cheap plastic. For a 90‑minute show I often go through one; for long rehearsals a single pick lasts several hours. Worn tips round off and become more flexible, so I like fresh ones for sharp attack.

Solid choice — with a mystery
Great picks in my view, though they have a habit of vanishing. Just when you think you'll stick with one forever, it disappears into pick limbo along with all the others.

Won't switch away — balanced stiffness and flex. Great for leading worship.

These became my go-to acoustic picks. I like the feel, durability and how long they last — unlikely I'll swap them out.

Schlechte Abwicklung
Ich bestellte 72 Plektren, erhielt aber nur eines. Der Kundenservice bot lediglich eine Teilerstattung an. Sehr enttäuschend.

Better for recording
I moved down to .50mm to cut pick noise while tracking. It took getting used to after .73mm, but the reduced clack and retained attack were worth it; the coating helps the grip when new.
