IR Repeater Kit — Infrared Remote Control Extender System
Product description
This IR repeater kit is designed to let you operate audio/video components that are tucked away behind doors, inside cabinets or in equipment closets. It supports control of multiple A/V units without requiring direct line-of-sight, enabling a tidy, closed-cabinet setup while your remote commands are passed through the receiver to emitters placed on or near the equipment.
The kit ships with one IR receiver module, four adhesive-backed IR emitters, the necessary interconnect cables and a power adapter. The receiver is housed in a compact ABS plastic enclosure roughly palm-sized (about 2.5 x 1.5 x 0.6 inches), while the emitters are slim, stick-on units with thin PVC-coated leads for unobtrusive placement. Adhesive pads and a short instruction leaflet are included for mounting and wiring.
Operation is straightforward: mount the receiver where it can 'see' your remote, route the emitter leads to the IR windows of the hidden components and plug in power. A built-in confirmation LED on the receiver flashes to indicate receipt of IR commands. The system claims broad compatibility with the majority of A/V remote control protocols, offering one IR input on the receiver and four emitter outputs for targeting multiple devices.
Typical uses include hiding an AV receiver in a cabinet, extending remote reach to equipment racks or placing the receiver in a convenient room position. Installation is plug-and-play for most setups, though some users may need to experiment with emitter placement and cabinet positioning to achieve consistent range and responsiveness.
Pros
- Allows remote control through closed doors and cabinets
- Works with most A/V remote protocols
- Confirmation LED shows when commands are received
Cons
- Replacement emitters/receivers not sold separately
- Range and sensitivity can be inconsistent
- Quick-start instructions are minimal
VerdictA practical remote-extending solution for concealed A/V gear: easy to install, compatible with most IR remotes and provides visible LED confirmation. Good for cabinet use but limited by range variability and lack of separately sold spare parts.

Functions, docs could be clearer
Performs as expected for me, though the quick guide leaves out a few helpful placement tips.

Weak range, look elsewhere
Unit needed to be within about 10 feet to respond. Tried a different-looking receiver and still had poor results. I’d shop for another model with stronger sensitivity.

Didn’t control my Denon receiver
Tried with a Denon x4800h in a closed cabinet. Followed the directions and saw the LED flash, but no commands reached the AVR. Plugged an emitter straight into the AVR IR jack and still no luck. Tried both power options. Returning it after wasting time.

Keeps the cabinet shut
Finally able to keep the doors closed. Volume and basic functions respond reliably. Solid set of inputs/outputs makes it flexible for different setups.

Useful for stage props but no extras
I use these for performer props and it handles RC5 and NEC at 38 kHz fine. Works well enough, but you only get one receiver and four emitters with no option to buy additional parts separately.
