Audyssey ACM1-X Calibrated Measurement Microphone for MultEQ‑X AVRs
Product description
Purpose and compatibility
The ACM1‑X calibration microphone is designed specifically to work with Audyssey’s MultEQ‑X workflow on Windows 10 and 11 systems. It is intended for installers and advanced users performing room EQ and loudspeaker calibration with compatible Denon and Marantz AV receivers and processors. Not every Audyssey‑enabled AVR supports external MultEQ‑X calibration — consult the MultEQ‑X documentation for supported models.
Individual calibration and contents
Each microphone is measured at Audyssey’s laboratory and assigned a unique calibration file tied to the unit’s serial number. The package typically ships with the microphone in a small box bearing a sticker/serial number and a QR code or instructions to obtain the calibration file via MultEQ‑X using that serial. The calibrated file is what distinguishes this model from the standard uncalibrated microphones bundled with some receivers.
Construction, form factor and use
The ACM1‑X is a compact, palm‑sized measurement microphone with an omnidirectional capsule and a foam windscreen; the body is built for field use and repeated setup. During calibration you place the microphone at prescribed listening positions and run MultEQ‑X to capture room responses. Because the microphone’s response has been characterized and corrected by its unique calibration file, the measurement data fed into MultEQ‑X is more precise than data from an uncalibrated mic.
Software requirement and limitations
To benefit from the ACM1‑X’s individual calibration you must use the MultEQ‑X Windows application with a valid in‑app license. Using this microphone with a receiver’s built‑in Audyssey routine or with the mobile editor app will not produce the enhanced calibration tied to the ACM1‑X calibration file. The microphone is equivalent in design to the ACM1HB type often supplied with AVR models, but the ACM1‑X includes the lab‑matched correction to meet tighter measurement reference characteristics.
Pros
- Each unit has a lab‑generated calibration file
- Omnidirectional capsule for full‑room measurements
- Compact, durable design for repeated setups
Cons
- Requires the MultEQ‑X Windows license to unlock full benefit
- Does not improve AVR built‑in or mobile app calibrations
- Only useful with receivers supported by MultEQ‑X
VerdictThe ACM1‑X is aimed at enthusiasts and installers who use the MultEQ‑X Windows application and want the most accurate measurement data their receiver can accept. It provides a factory‑matched calibration file for each microphone, an omnidirectional capsule for room acoustics capture, and a compact, rugged build suited to repeated setup work. It will not enhance calibration when used with a receive

High quality and reliable
Top quality microphone that works perfectly when used with Marantz/Denon receivers and the Audyssey software (sold separately).

Clear upgrade over the stock microphone
Night‑and‑day improvement compared to the microphone that shipped with my Marantz SR8015. Used with MultEQ‑X, the calibrated unit gave noticeably more accurate readings.

Smooth transaction and good mic
Smooth transaction and a very good microphone.

Calibration file could not be retrieved
Unable to download the unit's calibration file via MultEQ‑X; the software reported 'file not found' and I received no support reply.

Fantastic calibration tool
Worked flawlessly. Compared to the original Denon mic, the difference was huge. Highly recommend.

Excellent — no issues
Excellent. No issues.

Very accurate, but check subwoofer XO
This mic returned similar crossover readings to my older Audyssey mic (around 40Hz). I preferred manually shifting XO to 60–80Hz to get more life from my dual REL subs, but the PC app still produced the best overall results.

Consider the MultEQ‑X license & workflow
This calibrated mic is intended for MultEQ‑X on Windows and is best used with a laptop. Be aware the MultEQ‑X license is a separate, single‑AVR license. If you don’t buy that, receivers include a non‑calibrated microphone. The calibrated unit includes a serial sticker and a QR code on the box to guide the calibration download.

Better than generic replacements
A useful replacement if the stock mic fails or you want improved performance. Recognized by the MultEQ‑X Windows app and produced good tuning results.

Accurate and dependable in use
I bought this for calibration work and it surpassed expectations from the first measurement. It captures subtle room details and produced reliably precise results with my Marantz system.

Use with the PC MultEQ‑X software
The desktop MultEQ‑X application unlocks far more control than the receiver’s built‑in system or the mobile app. The software is a separate Windows license, but paired with this calibrated mic it delivers much finer tuning.

Same hardware, calibrated
Physically similar to the mic included with many receivers, but this one includes a calibration file. Getting the calibration into the software was smooth and worthwhile if you’re using Audyssey X.

Adds refinement to MultEQ‑X setups
This mic helps squeeze more accuracy from the MultEQ‑X workflow on later Denon and Marantz receivers. The software itself is the major improvement; the microphone refines the end result.
