IR Repeater Kit — 3x6 Remote Control Extender System
Product description
Purpose and use:
This IR repeater system is designed to let you operate infrared remote-controlled audio/video equipment that is concealed or located out of sight. It routes incoming IR commands from one or more external sensors to emitters placed at the IR windows of your components, so you can keep receivers, Blu-ray/DVD players, set-top boxes and amplifiers tucked away in cabinets, closets, or another room.
What's included and connections:
The kit ships with an IR connecting block, multiple IR emitters, two dual-band mini IR receivers, a 12 V DC power supply, two mounting screws and an instruction manual. Connectors are 3.5 mm (1/8") jacks for the receiver and emitter cables. The unit accepts receiver inputs and provides multiple emitter outputs so you can place LEDs directly at each device's IR sensor.
Technical details:
Power: 100–240 VAC input, 12 V DC 200 mA output. IR frequency support covers roughly 20 kHz to 60 kHz. Receiver and transmitter leads are about 3 meters (approximately 9.8 ft), and the enclosure and cables are finished in black. A confirmation LED on the receiver indicates that IR commands have been received. The product carries a 12-month warranty.
Installation and operation:
Mount the receiver(s) where you normally point your remote, plug the emitters into the distribution block, and position their IR LEDs near each component’s sensor. Wiring lets you place bulky or noisy components out of view while preserving full remote control. The system supports multiple configurations; plan how many receivers and emitters you need and where to route the cables for best coverage.
Compatibility and electrical note:
The repeater works with most consumer A/V IR remotes. Plugs are intended for use in regions matching the supplied mains configuration; if your local outlets or voltages differ you may need an adapter or converter before powering the included supply.
Pros
- Enables control of hidden or remote AV equipment
- Includes receivers, emitters and a power supply
- Simple wiring and visible LED confirmation
Cons
- Some units have reported reliability issues
- Cable length may be limiting in large installations
- Requires planning for number and placement of emitters
VerdictA practical solution for hiding AV components while retaining full remote control. Installation is straightforward for most setups, and the kit includes the core hardware and power needed to extend IR signals to multiple devices. Reliability is strong in typical home-theater uses, though a few users reported failures. Overall, useful for cabinets, closets, or separate equipment rooms when line-of-

Unit failed and smoked on me
I could not get the system to function; depending on which receiver jack I used the unit would emit smoke. I kept trying different setups but it never worked. Sadly I was past the return period before this happened and am disappointed with the failure.

Dependable for expanding IR to hidden devices
I installed this in my home theater where components sit inside a cabinet at the side of a large room. Once configured, all devices respond reliably. Check how many receivers and emitters you’ll need and consider clear paths to each component when planning placement.

Solved my cabinet remote problems
I bought this so I could close the cabinet doors and still control my stereo and 4K player. Setup was far easier than I feared—no cutting or drilling required. I'm using three emitters and it has worked flawlessly for four months. The IR LEDs are bright enough to reach each device and you can hide the emitters where they won’t be seen. Very straightforward repeat functionality.

Perfect for concealing equipment in cabinets
My cabinet had a window but the top and bottom shelves didn't have line of sight, so remotes failed on those pieces. I mounted a sensor on the door lip, put the control unit inside the cabinet, and stuck emitters on each device. It’s essentially set-and-forget and eliminated the need to leave doors open.

Added IR control after extending AV
I had already extended video and audio and needed remote access to an Ultra HD player from two spots. Installing this allowed control from additional locations and gave me room to expand later. The install required some effort, but the finished, clean routing is satisfying.

Consistent performance in a closet setup
I’ve used this for some time in a closet adjacent to my theater and it has been rock solid. Once it’s set up it just works. Make sure to pick the right mix of receivers and emitters for your layout and distances.

Professional control for hidden components
This kit transformed how I manage my hidden AV gear. Installation was plug-and-play: place the receiver where you point the original remote, run the emitters to each device, and you get reliable, low-latency control. It handled multiple brands in my setup without hiccups.

Made my event camera remotely usable
At a live event my camera's IR struggled from the control position. I picked this up quickly, wired it in, and reliability jumped from nearly unusable to about 70% responsiveness—good enough for the job. It comes with two receivers and multiple transmitters, and since it sends the signal over wire it effectively boosts reach to gear like PTZ cameras.
