FOXBC 5-Inch Metal Cut-Off Discs — 0.045 in Thin Kerf, 7/8 in Arbor (25-Pack)
Product description
This package contains 25 flat (Type 1) 5-inch metal cut-off discs designed for use with standard angle grinders that accept a 7/8-inch arbor. Each wheel measures 5" diameter x 0.045" thickness with a Type 1 hub and a maximum rated speed of 12,200 RPM.
Formulated with a premium aluminum oxide abrasive, the discs are intended for fast material removal and extended cutting life across steel, stainless steel, cast iron and sheet metal. The thin-kerf construction produces a narrower cut that minimizes burrs, reduces resistance on the tool, and draws less power from the grinder.
For safety and strength during handheld cutting the wheels are fully reinforced with two sheets of fiberglass, lowering the risk of breakage when used properly. The flat-disc profile is optimized for straight-on cuts and is especially useful when extra reach is needed in tight or awkward areas. These wheels are suitable for general metalworking, fabrication, repair and shop tasks where efficient, low-resistance cuts are required.
Pros
- Thin kerf for fast, low-resistance cuts
- Dual fiberglass reinforcement for added strength
- Good reach with 5-inch diameter for tight spots
Cons
- May not fit some grinder guards without modification
- Thinner profile can feel less robust on heavy stock
- Not optimised for non-ferrous materials
VerdictThese 5-inch, 0.045-inch cut-off discs are built for quick, straight cuts in a variety of ferrous metals. The thin kerf reduces material removal and grinder load, while the aluminum oxide formulation and dual fiberglass reinforcement deliver reliable life in handheld applications. They provide extended reach versus 4.5-inch discs, run true on a standard 7/8-inch arbor, and are a practical bulk opt

Broke during my use
I tried these on a small project and some wheels fractured off the grinder. Not reliable for my setup.

Five-inch discs reach tight areas
I like the 5" size because it gets deeper into awkward spots and seems to last. They won't fit some guards without removing or swapping the guard, so be aware of that. No breakage so far; they cut quickly and hold together well. Recommended for those who need extra reach.

Thin-kerf 5-inch cut-off discs
This 25-pack is handy for fabrication and shop work. The 5" x 0.045" x 7/8" Type 1 discs are made for angle grinders and handle steel, stainless, cast iron and sheet metal. The thin kerf removes less material and reduces burrs, making straight cuts faster. The aluminum oxide blend is aggressive for rapid removal, and two fiberglass layers add strength for handheld cutting. Rated to 12,200 RPM and fitting a 7/8" arbor, they are a practical bulk supply.

Sturdy discs for solid steel
Used these to slice through 1-1/4" solid steel; wear was minimal after several cuts. The discs stayed stable and cut at a good pace. The slightly wider kerf compared with ultra-thin blades removes more material but seems to help longevity. Good choice when durability matters.

Fast, cool cutting with good durability
I used these on a cordless 4-1/2" grinder for a quick job cutting 3/8" all-thread. They bit through easily with minimal sparks from the guard. The discs lost very little diameter and stayed cool; the thin profile reduces material waste and grinder strain. In a 25-pack they offer strong performance for repeated tasks.

Reliable for heavy fabrication work
I build pergola frames and do a lot of tubing cuts. The 5" size gives more depth than 4.5" discs and they hold up well. They run true, secure tightly to the arbor, and the narrow width focuses on cutting instead of grinding away metal. A 25-pack will last a typical hobby fabricator a long time.

Clean, fast cuts with respectable life
On 1/8" mild steel tubing the .045" discs slice through quickly with little pressure. Letting the grinder stay at speed keeps the cut clean and avoids glazing. The 5" size reaches farther into stock than 4.5" discs, and the 7/8" arbor fits securely. They remained flat and vibration-free during use, and disc wear has been reasonable over multiple cuts.
