Borlech 8-Layer Aquarium Filter Pad — Cut-to-Fit Floss Sheet (15.75×11.81×0.6")
Product description
Designed as a single cut-to-size sheet, this product arrives as a flat, multi-layer pad that you trim to match filter trays, boxes, or DIY applications. The supplied sheet measures 15.75" × 11.81" × 0.6", providing enough material for multiple custom cuts.
The pad is assembled from eight distinct layers: a three-dimensional honeycomb mesh cloth for structural support, fiber biochemical cotton for biological surface area, and a non-adhesive nano-filter mesh that traps very small particles. These layers are stacked to deliver progressive mechanical filtration that captures fish waste, uneaten food, and suspended debris.
Materials are selected to withstand continual water flow and routine rinsing without collapsing or losing shape, so the sheet holds up through repeated use. It maintains adequate water permeability so circulation and oxygen exchange are not severely impeded when fitted correctly.
Care is straightforward: trim the sheet to the required dimensions with scissors, insert it into the filter compartment or sump tray, and rinse periodically to restore performance. With regular cleaning, the pad can be reused multiple times, offering ongoing polishing performance and cost savings compared with single-use media.
Because the layers are relatively fine, the pad excels at clarifying water in aquaria and smaller systems, though it may require more frequent maintenance in very dirty or high-bio-load environments such as turtle setups or heavily stocked tanks.
Pros
- Cut-to-size flexibility for many filter types
- Multi-layer design captures fine particles quickly
- Reusable after rinsing for long-term use
Cons
- Very fine structure may clog rapidly in messy setups
- Can reduce flow if doubled up incorrectly
- Initial rehydration or fluffing may be required on arrival
VerdictA versatile, reusable filter sheet that polishes water quickly and is easy to trim for many filter types. It performs well in standard aquaria and hang-on-back setups, though its very fine structure can clog faster in heavily soiled applications like turtle sumps. Durable and economical over time if cleaned routinely.

Solid quality for general aquarium use
Good material and easy to use. Ideal for routine aquarium filtration.

Surprisingly expansive when fluffed
Arrived compressed and vacuum-sealed. I used warm air to expand it and it regained volume. Filters well and watching it open up was oddly satisfying.

Cleared my algae problem in a 32-gallon tank
I struggled with algae in my 32-gallon BioCube and after swapping in a trimmed section this pad, the algae diminished. I haven’t had to scrub the glass for several days. Very effective for routine tanks.

Improved clarity in an overcrowded 75-gallon
Was skeptical at first, but after a few days in my 75-gallon the water cleared noticeably. I doubled the sheet and it didn’t choke the flow in my filter. Fish look healthier and water quality is much better.

Does a good job polishing water
Performs solidly; tank water looks clear after installation.

Outperformed pricier alternatives
Tried it in place of higher-priced filter inserts and was impressed — performed as well or better at a fraction of the cost.

Excellent replacement for small HOB filters
Great swap for my 5-gallon tank’s waterfall filter. Easy to trim and the water became very clear quickly.

Customizable pad made our 20-gallon crystal clear
I trimmed a piece for the hang-on-back tray and within a week the water was clearer. It traps fine particles without noticeably reducing flow and holds up to repeated rinses.

High quality but too fine for turtle sump
Material quality is great and cutting to size is simple. In my turtle wet-sump it clogged in under three days — turtles create a lot of solids. Would be excellent in a standard aquarium, not ideal for my use.

Budget-friendly way to keep a turtle tank manageable
Needed a low-cost fix while pet-sitting a turtle. Replaced the old sponge with this cut-to-size sheet and saw clearer water by the next day. It didn’t reduce flow as much as the original sponge when both were installed.

Arrived compressed — extra prep required
Was shrink-wrapped and needed soaking and fluffing to regain shape before use. Instructions mention this but it wasn’t clear at purchase; an extra step that was inconvenient.
