Tamiya Extra Thin Cement Kit — Precision Adhesive for Plastic Models
Product description
Tamiya Extra Thin Cement is a solvent-based adhesive designed specifically for joining polystyrene plastic model parts. The formulation is very low-viscosity so it can be applied sparingly into seams where capillary action draws it between mating surfaces to form a welded joint.
This kit supplies the cement along with Pixiss blending swabs for cleaning and feathering, three needle-tip squeeze bottles for controlled dispensing, and a small funnel to refill or decant fluid without spills. The bottles’ fine tips allow tiny drops to be placed exactly where needed, while the swabs help remove excess and blend glued areas. The product is supplied in brush-cap or squeeze-tip formats depending on the bottle in the set.
In use, apply a small amount along a seam or joint and bring parts together; the solvent softens the polystyrene and fuses the surfaces as it evaporates. The thin consistency means faster drying and less visible glue residue than thicker adhesives. Keep in mind this is a solvent cement intended for plastic models — it evaporates cleanly on non-porous surfaces and will not act as a universal adhesive for glass, metal, or mixed materials. Work in a ventilated area and use sparingly for the cleanest results.
Pros
- Extremely precise, thin application
- Fast drying and strong welded joints
- Comes with swabs, three needle-tip bottles and funnel
Cons
- Effective only on polystyrene/plastic models
- Produces solvent fumes — ventilation required
- Not suitable for bonding glass, metal, or mixed materials
VerdictTamiya’s extra thin cement is a go-to solvent adhesive for polystyrene modelers who need razor-thin application and fast bonding. The included Pixiss swabs, three needle-tip squeeze bottles and a small funnel make it practical for detailed assembly and touch-ups. It’s not a universal glue — it chemically softens and fuses styrene, so it excels on plastic kits but won’t bond non-plastic materials.

Controlled delivery and strong hold
Works exactly as others said — the squeeze bottles let you place just the right amount and the bond holds up very well.

Solid performer
Does what it should. Reliable and easy to work with.

Brush applicator does the job
The cement performs well and the lid-mounted applicator handles most detail work, so I didn’t need the extras. Strongly recommend.

Great first impression
My first time using this and I’m pleased. Useful to keep in the hobby kit for future builds.

Not a universal glue — it’s a solvent
This product softens and fuses polystyrene rather than gluing like an adhesive. It evaporates clean on glass and won’t bond non-plastic materials. If you expected a general-purpose cement you’ll be disappointed; it’s meant for styrene model kits.

Ideal for seam welding
For plastic kit builders this is a precise way to apply solvent. A tiny drop is wicked into the seam and quickly fuses the parts — much neater than bulky tubes.
