Rockville RBG18S 18" Active Powered PA Subwoofer — 18-inch Bass Unit
Product description
The RBG18S is an 18-inch active PA subwoofer built to deliver deep low-frequency output for DJs, live musicians and venue installations. At its core is an 18" woofer driven by a high-mass motor assembly that supports robust bass extension and transient control. The amplifier section is integrated into the cabinet and provides the rated continuous and peak outputs to drive the driver hard while maintaining clarity.
Onboard DSP gives selectable low-frequency options (standard, boost or extended low modes), a clip limiter with LED indication and a three-position crossover control to match the sub to a variety of main speaker systems. Inputs include balanced XLR and 1/4" TRS plus unbalanced RCA, while XLR thru outputs and a phase switch allow easy chaining and alignment with PA tops and mixers.
The enclosure is constructed from multi-ply birch plywood with a protective black carpet finish and metal corner protectors. A metal grille guards the driver, and built-in features include carry handles on multiple sides, heavy-duty locking wheel casters and a pole-mount socket for mounting full-range speakers. Cooling is handled with a passive heat sink and a temperature-sensitive variable-speed fan to maintain amplifier temperatures during extended gigs. The package ships as a fully assembled active subwoofer with the amp, user controls and transport hardware preinstalled.
Pros
- Powerful low-frequency output with selectable DSP modes
- Comprehensive pro-level inputs and XLR thru for easy integration
- Sturdy birch plywood enclosure with handles and locking casters
Cons
- Cooling fan can be noticeable under load
- Cabinet finish or assembly may show inconsistencies
- Heavy overall despite wheels — needs two people to load
VerdictThe RBG18S offers concert-style low end and flexible control in a road-ready package. Its 18-inch driver and substantial magnet provide strong, punchy bass; the integrated DSP and selectable boost/extended low modes let you tailor the response for DJ sets, live bands or club use. Connectivity covers XLR, 1/4" TRS and RCA with XLR thru and phase control for easy integration. Build quality is solid

Great sound but two units arrived damaged
The sound and performance were impressive, but both units I received had physical damage. One had a mounting screw that punctured the cabinet. Receiving two damaged units in succession points to assembly or QC problems, and small refund offers didn’t address the concern.

Practical and loud
Very practical. I use it with an 8" speaker and it delivers clear, strong sound that fills the room.

Underwhelming power for the cost
Looks are good, but the power output disappointed me given the price. I wouldn’t recommend this if you need very high SPL from a compact cabinet.

Still thumping after years of rough use
Owned since 2017 and it’s still going in 2023. It gets loud and extends low. The unit needed some break-in and I had to jury-rig a loose crossover switch, but once fixed it pounds reliably even after heavy handling.

Excellent build and sound
Great sound and easy to carry. Overall quality feels solid and the tone is pleasing.

Small footprint, surprising punch
I tested two compact powered subs daisy-chained into my mixer’s main input. Run direct into the speaker input rather than an auxiliary and they came alive. For reggae and other bass-heavy music the small drivers delivered more punch than expected—set phase to normal and they dropped nicely.

Pleased for medium-size venues
This sub thumps and handles venues up to a few hundred people. I've only used it a few times so long-term durability is unproven, but it seems well built and I may add another unit.

Solid performer once dialed in
I bought a pair to run with my active tops at an outdoor event. The cabinets are sturdy, though the carpet trim showed minor flaws. Hookups are straightforward and labeled clearly. When set up correctly the bass was tight and accurate—far from the muffled reproductions you sometimes see in online clips. I'd rate the overall performance around an 8 to 8.5 for mobile DJ work.

Powerful and portable for mobile DJs
Strong output and lightweight enough for mobile DJ setups. Highly recommended for mobile work where punch and transportability matter.

Kick yourself for waiting
After researching for months I finally bought the 18" and wished I had sooner. It’s very loud and goes deep—might be overkill for small rooms where a 12 or 15 would suffice. Wheels and multiple handles make it easier to move, and the pole socket is handy for mounting tops.

Two subs make a huge difference
Adding a second sub transformed my gigs—walls and windows were visibly moving. Even one unit hit hard when configured properly with gain, crossover and boost. These are large, heavy cabinets but deliver serious low-end when used in pairs.

Good value for the money
Paired this with a pair of 12" tops to handle mids and highs and let the sub manage below 100Hz. Performance is respectable for the price—cabinet is large and heavy and my fan is a bit noisy. After a year I had occasional response issues that were fixed by toggling the switches.

Rebranded hardware with heavy speaker choice
These appear to be similar units sold under different badges; the company here used a heavier-weight speaker option. I assembled two into a tower-style setup with smaller mids for a Bose-like system at a fraction of the cost and they handled the low end well when crossed over correctly.
