Kryptonite Evolution 1090 10mm Chain Bike Lock — 3 ft Security
Product description
What you get: the Kryptonite Evolution 1090 chain lock, featuring a single integrated lock head, a weather-resistant nylon sleeve that slips over the chain, a sliding dust cover for the cylinder, and three stainless steel keys. The package also permits registration for the manufacturer’s Anti‑Theft Protection Offer and comes with a limited lifetime warranty and customer support.
Construction and materials: the chain uses 10 mm, six-sided links heat-treated from 3T manganese steel for enhanced toughness against cutting and leverage techniques. The lock head is a reinforced oval design with a pick-resistant disc-style cylinder to reduce vulnerability to picking. A rubberized/nylon sleeve covers the chain links to prevent frame scratches and shield the finish from abrasion and weather.
Size and weight: the chain measures roughly 3 ft (about 90 cm / 35.5 in), offering enough length to secure through larger wheel sets and thicker posts while remaining manageable to carry on many bikes. The total weight is approximately 6.10 lbs (2.77 kg), reflecting the heavy-duty materials and reinforced lock head.
How it’s used: loop the chain through the bike frame and wheel(s) and around a secure anchor, then insert the key and lock the integrated head. The sliding dust cover helps keep debris and moisture out of the cylinder; store the spare keys separately. This lock is intended for moderate to high-risk environments such as city commutes, campuses, overnight parking and for securing e-bikes or motorized scooters where extra resistance to attack is required.

VerdictThe Evolution 1090 is a substantial, Gold-rated chain lock designed for high-risk urban use and e-bike security. Chunky and secure
Provides strong security. Minor issues: the key can be a little fussy and it’s noticeably heavy, but that’s the tradeoff for sturdiness.

Protected my ride under attack
I left my scooter locked and watched someone try multiple heavy tools on camera — they gave up. The chain held up; very durable and reassuring for bikes, scooters or small motorcycles.

Heavy but effective
Chunky unit that you’ll have to lug. It’s solid and I took the optional $3k coverage. I was expecting a different coverage amount but still glad to have protection.

Massive security, obvious tradeoffs
This is a tank in girth and build; it’s not long but it’s thick. The detainer-style cylinder makes key insertion easy and picking harder, but the weight — roughly seven pounds — is a real factor for daily riders.

Proved itself over time
Owned for two years. It’s bulky to thread around some anchors but it performs. Funny thing: the one time I didn’t use it my bike was stolen, so I learned my lesson.

Top quality construction
Well-built; disc-style cylinder and solid links. The chain isn’t extremely thick but should be adequate for short stops on an e-bike.

Feels solid and reliable
From the moment you lift it, this lock feels substantial. The chain and head are robust and the mechanism works smoothly. It’s heavy, but that weight gives me confidence leaving an expensive bike unattended; we stow it on the bike rather than carrying it separately.

Sturdy build and nice casing
Haven’t needed to test it against an attack, but the unit is heavy and appears well made. The nylon/rubber jacket around the chain and lock head should protect paint and reduce scuffs.

Serious deterrent, added protection option
This is a heavy, high-rated lock. You can opt for a 1–2 year protection plan tied to the lock rating. It’s bulky but far more reassuring than a cable.

Nice chain but missing keys on delivery
The chain is thick and solid and doesn’t feel overly heavy. Disappointed it arrived without any keys or packaging — looked like it had been handled before shipping. Quality control needs attention.

Heavy but trustworthy
Solid construction and reliable operation. The chain length suits e-bikes well, though the extra weight is expected.

Discourages thieves by design
It won’t make theft impossible, but it raises the effort needed enough that many opportunistic thieves move on. The chain’s flexibility makes it harder to steady for grinders and the six-sided 10 mm links resist prying, so it’s a deliberate choice if you want to raise the bar.

Great for expensive bikes, heavy for hills
One of the toughest chains I’ve used; I leave my bike secured for long periods and come back to untouched hardware. It’s extremely heavy, so if you ride in hilly areas it’s a burden — but if you have an expensive e-bike it’s a sensible investment.
