X-Sense SD2J0AX 10-Year Photoelectric Smoke Alarm — No-Wire
Product description
This X-Sense SD2J0AX smoke alarm ships with the detector, a twist-on mounting plate, screws and anchors, plus a user guide. The unit is designed for straightforward DIY fitting — no electrician or house wiring required.
The housing is molded plastic with a photoelectric sensing chamber and integrated sealed lithium cell rated to provide power for up to 10 years. Its low-profile form factor is intended to suit standard ceiling or wall locations and cover typical room footprints where standalone detectors are appropriate.
It is independently tested and ETL listed to the UL 217 standard for smoke alarms, indicating it meets recognized safety criteria. The photoelectric sensor is tuned to reduce nuisance triggers from routine cooking or steam while remaining responsive to smoldering fires.
Installation consists of affixing the mounting plate with the included fasteners, attaching the alarm to the plate, and confirming operation with the built-in test function. The detector operates on its own — no Wi-Fi, hub, or interconnection is required — and features a test/silence button and automatic self-test routines for routine checks.
Pros
- Sealed 10-year lithium battery for low upkeep
- Photoelectric sensor reduces false alarms
- No hardwiring — quick DIY mounting with included hardware
Cons
- Not networked — no remote alerts
- Instructions may be sparse for some users
- Alarm can be very loud during testing
VerdictA low-maintenance, standalone smoke alarm that uses a sealed lithium battery rated for a decade, a photoelectric sensor to cut down false triggers, and ETL listing to UL 217. Easy to mount without hardwiring makes it a practical choice for bedrooms, hallways and living spaces.

Solid replacement with long-life battery
I replaced an older detector in our family room and this unit covered the previous holes and fit well. The ten-year battery is a major convenience so we don’t need annual ladder trips. It’s loud enough to wake deep sleepers and the self-test button works reliably.

Easy to fit, ideal for basic coverage
Installation was straightforward: screw on the base and twist the alarm into place. It’s the non-communicating version with a decade-long battery — good for renters or rooms where remote alerts aren’t needed. Testing it without hearing protection is intense; the alarm is extremely loud up close.

No hardwiring required — much simpler setup
Many similar units need permanent wiring, which creates routing headaches and can draw on vehicle or house power. This model runs on three AAA cells and includes removable fasteners so you don’t have to locate it near a power source. It emits the expected ultrasonic alarm tones and flashes during events and otherwise behaves like a wired unit without the cable clutter.

True standalone alarm — no hub needed
I own multiple devices from the brand; some tie into a hub but I appreciate that this detector works solo. No pairing, no compatibility worries, and no network setup — just install and it’s active. The built-in long-life battery is meant to match the expected service life so you won’t be swapping cells frequently.

Poorly explained installation steps
Installation directions were hard to follow; set-up felt more difficult than it should be.
