USG 381466 Lightweight All-Purpose Joint Compound — Ready-Mixed

Product description

USG 381466 is supplied as a ready-to-use 4.5-gallon pail of lightweight all-purpose joint compound intended for interior gypsum panel construction.

Made in the United States, this gypsum-based compound is engineered to be durable and user-friendly. The package contains a pre-mixed, smooth formulation sized for multiple patching and finishing jobs; no powdered mixing is required before use.

The formula offers up to 35% less weight than conventional all-purpose compounds while maintaining strong adhesion to tape, corner beads and fasteners. It is formulated for reduced shrinkage and easier sanding, often requiring only two coats over metal trim. Designed to serve as a single-package solution, it combines taping and topping characteristics so you can tape, fill and finish with one product. The compound meets ASTM C475 for joint treatment products and is intended for interior applications on gypsum panels, saving time on typical finishing sequences.

Pros

  • Ready-mixed 4.5-gallon pail
  • Up to 35% lighter than conventional compounds
  • Low shrinkage and easy sanding

Cons

  • Interior use only
  • May stiffen if left uncovered
  • Some metal areas still need two coats

VerdictThis ready-mixed, 4.5-gallon lightweight joint compound delivers a useful balance of taping and topping performance for interior gypsum panels. It is noticeably lighter than conventional formulas, sands with minimal effort, and bonds well across common drywall details. Expect fewer coats over metal than many heavier compounds and easier finishing overall. For contractors and DIYers who value lower
