Large Solar Automatic Chicken Coop Door — Side-Slide with Timer & Remote
Product description
This automatic chicken coop door ships as a horizontal sliding door assembly paired with a separate 7W solar panel, a remote control and a Type‑C charging option for backup power. The opening created by the unit measures approximately 11.3 x 8.7 inches, accommodating larger chickens and other poultry up to roughly 15 pounds without needing overhead clearance.
Built from aluminum alloy, the door slides side‑to‑side rather than up and down to suit coops or tractors with low roofs. The unit houses a built‑in 2000mAh battery that is charged by the included 7W solar panel — a stronger panel than many entry models — and it will accept Type‑C USB charging for cloudy spells or top‑ups.
Control is flexible: select from four automation modes (timer‑to‑timer and the three timer/light sensor combinations), use the manual buttons, or operate with the remote from up to about 49 feet. The light sensor options let the door follow dawn/dusk patterns, while timer settings enable precise open/close schedules.
Safety features include an anti‑pinch sensor that halts and retries if an obstacle is detected during closing, plus a locking mechanism designed to resist common predators. There is also an alarm that can signal forced‑entry attempts.
The mechanism is rated to operate in a wide temperature range (roughly -4°F to 140°F) when receiving adequate solar charging. Installation is straightforward: cut an appropriate horizontal opening in your coop wall, screw the frame in place, and position the solar panel for optimal sunlight. No hard wiring is required.
This door is marketed for use with chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, rabbits and similar small poultry, and is particularly convenient for coops in remote locations where mains power is unavailable.
Pros
- Side‑sliding design fits low‑roof coops
- 7W solar panel with USB‑C backup
- Multiple automation modes and remote control
Cons
- Some units show variable long‑term reliability
- Drive area can be vulnerable to dirt or moisture
- Not all installations include mounting fasteners
VerdictA heavy-duty, side‑sliding automatic coop door that balances solar autonomy and safety features. The aluminum construction, obstacle sensors, and multiple timer/light modes make it a flexible choice for larger birds and low‑roof coops, though long-term reliability varies between units.

Works great for my coop
Performs very well and suits my setup perfectly.

Stopped charging after a few months
Worked great for the first three months, then it stopped charging and went dead. Now I have to open and close the doors manually — very inconvenient.

Good value, sturdy after modification
Very robust once I added a wood backing for attachment. Attractive and operates smoothly. I wish there were an audible warning before closing so hens in the run knew it was about to shut.

Simple install, winter test pending
Installation was straightforward and the unit is functioning fine. I’ll see how it performs through a Wisconsin winter.

Stopped working after getting dirty
Worked fine until a heavy rain brought mud into the gear area. Dirt seems to jam the drive and it wouldn’t operate afterward.

Convenient and reassuring
Easy to operate with timer, light sensor and remote. The solar power and solid build give me peace of mind that my flock is safer overnight.

Bought three — so far excellent
Easy to fit and use; I installed three units for tractors, runs and tunnels. I use timers for morning openings and manually close at night. One was exposed to a lot of rain and still performed well.

Frustrating lack of instructions
There were no clear directions or included screws, and I couldn’t tell if the panel had charged enough. I had to remove the unit at night so the hens could get in.

Sturdy sliding door — works well
Solid metal construction and the side‑sliding action work perfectly for my 12 lb rooster. Installation was simple, the timer opens and closes on schedule, and the remote is handy. The solar panel keeps it charged.
